Budo’s students and one Instructor entered the Hayastan Grappling Challenge in North Hollywood: Madelyn, Henry, Amin and Sensei Moore. This was each of their first time competing.

Everyone was very excited as well as nervous. Everyone registered and weighted in without a hitch. The Grappling Tournament started a 11 Am and the Very First bout was Henry. Henry lost his first match but won his next matches and ended up bringing home the GOLD!! Amin was up next and he fought, enduring a Rear Naked choke for as long as he could, and came home with a Bronze. Madelyn was up next and her first opponent was a big girl compared to Madelyn, but she faced her without fear. Unlike another boy in the division who refused to grapple Madelyn’s opponent. I am also proud of how she fought, and she also came home with a Bronze Medal. W3e4 had to wait a LONG time For Jason (Sensei Moore)’s fight. He fought hard and his first opponent remarked that he Jason was really fast and explosive and his opponent could not stay on his feet. Jason’s Second Match he also got the takedown but could not secure a win. Since Friday was his birthday, I had hoped he would get a golden present today. Definitely next time! Everyone did extremely well and I know they ALL learned a lot.

The song we sing every New Years Eve called Auld Lang Syne is considered the most recognized song no one knows.

Auld Lang Syne is a Scottish poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and was later set to a folk wedding song to become the New Years Eve Song we sing today. It is well known in many countries, especially in the English-speaking world but it was not until big band leader leader, Guy Lombardo, performed the tune for a radio broadcast in 1929 to celebrate the start of the New Year at the stroke of midnight, that it became the US tradition it is today.

Auld Lang Syne lyrics:

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,

And never brought to mind?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,

And auld lang syne!

Chorus.-For auld lang syne, my dear,

For auld lang syne.

We’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,

For auld lang syne.
